Monstera Ginny *RARE*

Comes in a 6” ceramic pot, these are very healthy and full plants.

Philodendron 'Ginny' (Rhaphidophora tetrasperma), The Mini Climbing Monstera. A rare tropical aroid with small ornamental leaves with split lobes about 6" across. Best in bright indirect light with regular water. The leaves look like a mini Monstera deliciosa, but much smaller in scale. Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is the most current name. Prune as needed. This is a difficult to kill house plant. The large split leaves develop with age. They are climbing plants, so be sure to keep them close to a wall that you can guide them up, or adding a stake or moss pole.

Light

Bright, indirect light is ideal for your Rhaphidophora tetrasperma. Its leaves are shaped in a way that makes the most of the ambient light in its area. While it can’t tolerate a lot of direct sunlight, bright but indirect lighting mimics what it naturally gets in the wild. If you lack a good location outdoors which supplies the right lighting requirements, use a 20%-40% shade cloth to block some of the harsher rays and mellow the sunlight.

Those growing it indoors should ensure it gets plenty of light, too. Avoid direct sunlight because it can scorch the delicate leaves. Eastern exposure windows often provide a good amount of light for this plant, and a grow light can add extra ambient lighting. Avoid low light conditions which will slow the plant’s growth and reduce its leafy foliage.

Temperature

Prefers warm and humid conditions. Keep above 15C if possible, but it can survive brief cold spells with some die-back.

Fertilizing

Use a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength, I have a great one for sale on my site HERE.  Whatever you do, don’t over-fertilize (too much or too often) and don’t feed in the colder, darker months, because the plant is resting. Be sure to read the label.

Watering

High humidity. Keep soil continuously moist throughout spring and summer, and reduce watering in the winter.

Propagation

Propagation by stem cuttings by using a rooting hormone or placing nodes in water until roots emerge. Keep cuttings warm and protected until new growth emerges. This process can take some time so be patient.

Toxicity

The Monstera Ginny is poisonous to humans or cats and dogs.
